RESORT OF THE WEEK, Disney's Wilderness Lodge

Today on RESORT OF THE WEEK, we are featuring my very favorite place to stay on Disney property, Wilderness Lodge.  

It's my favorite for several reasons. 
#1 - The beauty of the setting
#2 - It holds great memories as I stayed there with my boys back in 1997
#3 - The homey and comforting feel that it exudes.
#4 - The great food to be eaten here
#5 - Beautiful pools
I could go on and on with this list........but I think you get the general idea.  I was fortunate enough once again to stay here for a couple nights last fall when I did a quick solo trip in October. I stayed here after a work conference I had to go to Orlando.  Two and a half days at Walt Disney World is not enough, even though I really crammed a lot of action into that short time.

This resort is inspired by the National Park lodges of the late 19th century.  It really does bring this inspiration to the forefront everywhere you look.  The inspiration of early American explorers, and Native American symbolism is around every corner.


Here are some of the photos I took from Wilderness Lodge, and a few others I have in my files.
                                    

 You're immediately surrounded by 8 floors of towering Lodgepole Pine imported from Oregon.

The two large poles (Raven and Eagle) are each 55 feet tall and depict various Native American legends.    They are names after the animal that stands at the top of each totem!

The multi-colored fireplace is a representation of two billion years of erosion and the strata of the Grand Canyon. More than 100 shades including black, green, magenta, buff, red, and brown were used for this depiction and the layers are proportionate to the strata found in the Grand Canyon. The fireplace stands over 80 feet tall!!  There is also a Hidden Mickey on the fireplace!  I found it!

                This is a North American Indian Headdress reproduction....it's beautiful!

                I love the character totem that stands outside the Mercantile Gift Shop.

                                    Roaring Forks is the Quick Service Dining Area in the resort.
                            I think they have some of the best food options in quick service 
                            on Disney property.

Artist Point, which is a dinner only dining room.  Their feature dish is Cedar Plank Salmon, and it is delicious!

The other "dining room" type restaurant is the always active, always fun Whispering Canyon Cafe.   Want ketchup?  Well........ask for it and see what happens! 

You can also dine on appetizers in the Territory Lounge which sits next to Artist Point.  

This is a great location to kick back and relax with friends, or for cocktails before dinner.

Water launches cruise each day from the Wilderness Lodge boat dock and travel on both Bay Lake and Seven Seas Lagoon and make their way to the entrance of Magic Kingdom.

Fire Rock Geyser sits just beyond the Wilderness Lodge pool area, and you can see it as you make your way to the boat dock.  It is inspired by Yellow Stone Park's Old Faithful and shoots water at the stop of the hour from morning until evening daily.

FOODIE FRIDAY!

Today on FOODIE FRIDAY we are continuing our time at sea aboard the Disney Wonder and our last night of dining.  We are back at Triton's and once again it was delicious!

Our table companions were having dinner at PALO on this particular night, so it was just Paul and I.  

It was salad and seafood night for us!!

Throwback Thursday

This week on TBT, we take a look back at a special moment from our trip in 2010.  It was the first time that I have been able to catch up with Jiminy Cricket in a very long time, and the first time for Paul.  

We found Jiminy at Disney's Animal Kingdom at Rafiki's Planet Watch.

My Disney Pin Collection Monday

We featured Ariel last week, so we will see another of my Ariel pins this week.  Last week if you remember she was in "Mermaid" form, and this week, she is featured in the gown she wears while she has "human" legs.  

                                        Ariel is near and dear to my heart.  

                                                      So, here she is!!

Resort of the Week! Disney's Contemporary Resort

Today we start a new feature on the blog page.  Every Sunday we will feature a Disney resort of some kind.  It could be at Walt Disney World, it could be Disneyland, Vero Beach..........we never know where we might wind up. 

 We hope that this is helpful and enlightening to those who are not as familiar with Disney resorts at the rest of us!  We also hope the rest of you enjoy this new feature and see some pictures from some of your favorite places! 

Disney's Contemporary Resort

Having the Monorail go right through your resort hotel, is very cool in my books!!



The Grand Canyon Concourse is the home to the mosaic mural done by Mary Blair.  It is absolutely spectacular!

Beautiful, modern and very sleek.  I was lucky enough to stay here just once, and we were upgraded from the original room we booked. We were put in a room with a view of the Magic Kingdom and we were able to sit on our balcony and watch the fireworks.  It was breathtaking!
